![]() Event: Shinerama “SHINE DAY” Date: Oakville, Saturday September 6th, 2008 Sheridan College students holding Shinerama “SHINE DAY” Event! Oakville, Saturday September 6th, 2008 – Students from Sheridan College will treat the community of Oakville to a car wash, barbeque and other fun activities for the children, in hopes to raise over $7,000 for Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF). Visit the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation website. Students Fighting Cystic Fibrosis Shinerama is Canada’s largest post-secondary fundraiser, involving students at approximately 60 university and college campuses across the country, annually. Cystic fibrosis (CF), which attacks the lungs and the digestive system, is the most common, fatal, genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. The CCFF is a world leader in the fight against CF. Canadian researchers discovered the gene responsible for cystic fibrosis in 1989 and they continue to play a leading role in the race to develop new treatments for the disease. The money raised through Shinerama goes to support the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and its efforts to find a cure, or an effective control for cystic fibrosis. Thanks in part to funds raised through Shinerama, there has been great progress in the search for a cure. In fact, since Shinerama first began in 1964, the median age of survival of Canadians with CF has increased from age 4 to age 37! Proof that Canadian students are making a difference!
